This story is exactly what it states at the beginning. It is not a story where a girl is saved by a knight in shining armor, it is a story of a woman taken from her life by a sadistic man and given as a gift to another who, in some ways, is just as trapped as she is.
Let me start off by saying I loved this book- it is defiantly a dark and sometimes cruel story, but fans of books such as C.J. Roberts Dark Duet series will enjoy it as much as I did.
Maddy (or "Cricket") is a character I fell in love with straight away. She is a shy young woman who you instantly feel for and pray that even though she is taken to hell she will make it through. She was such a strong woman as well, no matter what she faced.
Xander is a man who has to work within this hell that Maddy has been taken to, and although he sometimes does cruel things to Maddy, I couldn't help but eventually like him. Even from the very beginning he tries to help her in the little way he can, and as the story progressed and he continued trying, I grew to like him more and more.
Aaron is a complicated man who you can't help but feel for. I don't want to say too much as I don't want to give the story away but he is someone I grew to love. However, there were times I hated him, and I was practically shouting at my Kindle for him to make a stand. But, when you read this book, you will understand why he does the things he does, and that he is not all evil.
The story and writing itself was very good. I gave this story 5 stars because the author creates a plot that had me wishing I could read faster so I could know the outcome sooner. It really keeps you on the edge of your seat and had me turning each page without stopping until I had finished this story. Her descriptive writing of the place where Maddy is kept makes you feel as though you can close your eyes and see the room for yourself, and I always believe that that shows great writing.
All I will say about the ending, so as to not give anything away, is that I was pleased with it and felt it fit in as a perfect ending for a dark story.
I would definitely recommend this story for lovers of dark/erotica books.
