A great dystopian type of story about a world come to ruins with only tribes left sometimes fighting and struggling to stay alive.
An original and fascinating plot, characters that were beyond likeable and intriguing to read about and descriptive writing makes this one of my favourite reads so far this year.
I loved all the supporting characters to be honest, Jan, Jamie, Nella, Ryder, Robin, Ricky, Dec, Terri...honestly they were all brilliant. Each one had something about them that you could easily like whether it be that they were brave, funny, adorable, sweet, confident; they were all characters I hoped got their happy ending and who I enjoyed reading about.
The main two Deeta and Tom were just as great.
Deeta was a lovely young women, so kind, gentle and caring and a wonderful 'mother' figure to the young children, she was a heroine in her own right always wanting to help her tribe, family or the children.
Tom was a definite hero in my eyes, a strong protector wanting the best for everyone and adopting children to protect them from the now abandoned city. He is a character you can't help but adore. I loved that he was quiet but in a fierce way, a nice change from the alpha males in most books who are loud and confident in a more obvious way. Tom controlled the room with just his presence and you could tell that in the moments that matter he would be the perfect gentlemen.
The plot of the story was captivating. An original story line filled with suspense and drama. It kept me hooked all the way through. I loved the story behind the brothers and I had no idea who was behind all the 'accidents' even though I guessed many times, and when the person was revealed to us it was a definite shock to me but I loved that it wasn't predicable. Even with another story in the series, this one ends well, there is no cliffhanger which is another thing I also really like about this book. All the questions in this book are answered but that doesn't stop me from wanting to read the next one to find how all the lives of these characters move forward.
The writing was also easy to read and descriptive to the point you could imagine what had become of the world and good writing always makes a story more enjoyable to read.
All in all a brilliant story I would recommend to many, if you love dystopian, romance, YA, NA, definitely give this book a go.

I loved the first book and gave it a big 5 star rating and this book didn't disappoint, actually I think I enjoyed it even more that the first!
At the end of the first book everything seemed to be all okay again, as much as it can be in a Dystopian world. The start of the second is a few months on, with Deeta and Tom married as well as her sister Jan and Ryder. And things are not as okay as Deeta hoped they would be with the tribes back to not trusting each other and conflict being likely.
In this book we see Deeta and Tom as a married couple and I really loved reading about them. We only saw a glimpse of what they would be like as a couple in the first book so I really enjoyed reading them as a couple and they are as hopelessly in love as I thought they would be.
Tom is just as protective as ever and wanting to help everyone and try and mend relationships between the tribes so there is a better world for everyone. And Deeta is the strong women behind every great man!
We also see a lot more of Jan and Ryder which was also a joy to read. I love Ryder, nearly as much as I love Tom. He is just as protective and caring but he also has a lighter personality and brings a bit of laughter to the book.
Even though this is a shorter book there is still plenty of action, within the first half of the book I had already shed a few tears during a scene I didn't expect to happen. It was probably even more fast paced than the first as the drama was compacted into fewer pages, keeping me immediately hooked, so much so that I easily finished this book within a day.
The ending is a lot more open ended this time with many issues still not solved meaning I'm waiting not so patiently for the next book which I know will be as good as the first two so I can't wait to get stuck into it.
A continuation of a brilliant story with loveable characters that I can't wait to continue on with.
